NOTICE OF ELECTION
Election of Member of Parliament for the Harwich and North Essex Constituency
1. An Election is to be held for the Member of Parliament for the Harwich and North Essex Constituency (as defined in The Parliamentary Constituencies Order 2023).
2. Nomination papers for this Election may be obtained from the Acting Returning Officer at the Elections Office, Democratic Services & Elections, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, CO15 1SE. At the request of an elector for the electoral area, the Acting Returning Officer shall prepare a nomination paper for signature.
3. Completed nomination papers must be delivered, by hand, to the Acting Returning Officer at the Elections Office, Democratic Services & Elections, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, CO15 1SE, on any day after the date of this notice between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm but no later than 4.00pm on Friday, 7 June 2024.
4. For a candidate's nomination to be valid, the sum of £500 must be deposited with the Acting Returning Officer (either in legal tender or by banker's draft from a drawer which carries on business as a banker in the United Kingdom).
5. If the election is contested, the poll will take place on Thursday, 4 July 2024, between the hours of 7.00am and 10.00pm.
6. The last day to submit an application to be included on the electoral register to be used at this election is midnight on Tuesday, 18 June 2024. Applications are to be made to the Electoral Registration Officer at the address shown in point 10(a) or (b) below as applicable. Applications can also be made online www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. For electors voting in polling stations there is a legal requirement to take a prescribed form of photographic identification to vote. A full list of the prescribed forms of photographic identification is available on the relevant local authority website. For those who require a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector Document to meet the requirement for photographic identification, applications can be made at www.voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk/.
7. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at the address shown in point 10 (a) or (b) below as applicable by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 19 June 2024.
8. New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at the address shown in point 10 (a) or (b) below as applicable below by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.
9. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election - applied for on grounds of a medical emergency (occurring after 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday, 26 June 2024), because of work/service reasons (occurring after 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday, 26 June 2024) or the form of acceptable photographic identification that you were intending to use to vote has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed, or has not yet been received if applied for recently - must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at the address shown in point 10 (a) or (b) below as applicable below by 5.00 p.m. on Thursday, 4 July 2024.
10. (a) For those who reside in the administrative area of Tendring District Council the address, referenced in points 6, 7, 8 and 9 above, is the Elections Office, Democratic Services & Elections, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, CO15 1SE (although electors and residents may also make contact by email to elections@tendringdc.gov.uk, telephone on 01255 686575 or via the website at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/elections).
(b) For those who reside in the administrative area of Colchester City Council the address, referenced in points 6, 7, 8 and 9 above, is (in Person) Colchester Town Hall, High Street, Colchester CO1 1PJ (by Post - 33 Sheepen Road, Colchester, CO3 3WG) (although electors and residents may also make contact by email to Elections@colchester.gov.uk, telephone on 01206 28282 or via the website at www.colchester.gov.uk/elections).
